Handblock printing, or block/woodblock printing, is an ancient Asian and Indian tradition requires masterful level of precision. Artisans use hard-carved teak wood blocks, some of which are often passed down through generations of artisan families. The teak wood blocks are dipped in dye and stamped onto fabric, each color and pattern represents a different stamp in the creation of the piece. The tiny variations that occur are part of the appeal with this hand stamping technique.
